Lady And A Tramp (Terence "Tramp-Baby" Abney & Marcella Precise) are a production-songwriting team out of Brooklyn, NY. Their production/songwriting credits includes heavyweights and household names such as Pink, Stacie Orrico, Charlie Wilson, Brooke Hogan, Noel Gourdin, Luther Vandross & Jaheim. I had the exteme pleasure of chatting with Marcella Precise. We talked about how they started in the music business, the success of Jaheim's latest album "Another Round" and "studio singers".
EJae: How did you come up with the name A Lady And A Tramp?
Marcella: I've always been a Lady in my style of dress and conversations. Managing to see the brighter side of situations because to me, whatever I'm going thru... it is always about to get better. Since my teen years, my optimism had folks always calling me a Lady. Every woman is a Lady that respects herself. Also, I was one of a 5 female artist collective (including Bahamadia, Lauryn Hill, Uneek and Tripp) asked to do a song with international party dj, Big Kap. He dubbed us 'Da Ladies' too. Terence grew up around several famous jazz musicians that were friends of his parents and kept his own extensive record collection that crossed genres from rock, rap, r&b to soul, etc. The Otis Redding & Carla Thomas song "Tramp" and Salt N Pepa's "Tramp" were a part of his collection. Everyone called him Tramp-Baby-Jazz. Ish of Digable Planets still calls him Jazz but for the most part his crew and other producers call him Tramp. Lady And A Tramp was meant to be:)
EJae: How long have you been writing and producing?
Marcella: Music is Life!!! I can't remember not having music in my life ever. I wrote my first play and poem at 8. I wrote my first song at 10, my latest song ten minutes ago and LADY AND A TRAMP co-wrote our latest tv commercial for a South African health beverage campaign that my lyrics entitled, THE GOODNESS a few months ago. My God is so amazing that we prefer to live life and let someone else Time It when we're at eternal rest. I love being involved in the specifics of the details in the creative process. We throw ourselves all in, while appreciating what others bring to the table to keep fun yet focused.
